If you would like to adopt a pet, we urge you to visit the shelter and see what we have. While you are visiting, please feel free to talk to the staff about what you're looking for, and how you expect a pet to be. The staff will help direct you to pets that are appropriate for your family and lifestyle.

Before being allowed to adopt an animal, you will have to complete an adoption application. This form simply assures us that you are a responsible adoptee by asking questions about where you live, your current and past pets and the name of your veterinarian. We ask why you want to adopt and if you have any preference for a particular breed of dog or special characteristic of a cat. There is also an online version of this form, which you can print out and send or bring to the ARL. Once we have the completed application at the shelter, it usually takes us a day or two to check it over. Once everything goes through, we will call you to set up an appointment for you to adopt the animal.

If you are looking for a specific type of animal, such as a specific breed, size, or age, please fill out an application. Once the application is approved, we will keep it on file for a year, and give you a call if a matching animal comes in.

There are some minor charges involved to help defray our costs. The adoption fees are $50 for a cat or dog over a year old, $60 for a cat or dog under a year old. For any animal that has not been fixed before adoption, there will also be a $40 refundable deposit. This deposit may be returned once we have been shown proof that the animal has been fixed.
