The Animal Rescue League of Southern Rhode Island (ARL) works as an adoption agency for pets who are given up by people who can no longer adequately care for the animals. If you have an animal you are looking to place, and would like to bring it to the ARL, please expect the following procedure:

1. A Shelter representative will secure your name, address, and phone number, and information on the animal. This information might include (but would not be limited to): breed, age, sex, veterinary history (including reproductive status), personality traits and why the animal is being given up for adoption. The best situation for the animal and the animal's potential for adoption will be discussed.

2. If we are able to take the animal, an appointment will be set up for you to bring the animal to the shelter. Appointments are typically made between 9 am and 11 am, Tuesday through Sunday. During the appointment, you will be required to complete and sign a release form, provide vaccination certificates, and honestly discuss the animal's personality and behaviors with a Rescue League representative.

3. If we are unable to take the animal due to space availability or other reasons, you will be put on a waiting list, as well as given other possible courses of action.

4. Trading animals is a practice that is strongly discouraged.
